Set to crown the Volkswagen passenger car line-up when Australian sales get underway in early 2018, it retains the highly contemporary lines of the well received Sport Coupe Concept, albeit with detailed changes to its prominent grille, which forms part of a distinctive full width graphic at the front of the new Volkswagen model in combination with its LED headlamps.
Designed by Tobias Sühlmann under the tutelage of Klaus Bischoff, it is an elegant interpretation of the standard four-door sedan, although VW is touting it as a grand tourer. A six-blade grille integrated with slim LED headlights dominates the front end and accentuates its width, and the entire car hews closely to the lines of the Sport Coupe Concept GTE that VW showed in Geneva two years ago.
Range-topping models will be offered with 4MOTION all-wheel drive, and the whole range can be paired with the excellent seven-speed DSG that features in countless other VW products. If we were high-ups at Audi, we’d be worried about the Arteon eating into A7 sales given the similarities between the two.
Volkswagen hasn’t revealed pricing details for the Arteon, but the car will be on show at the Geneva Motor Show. New Atlas will be on the ground covering all the action, so stay tuned for the latest.
