The history of Renault rally is nothing short of long-standing: just think of the Renault 4 to Dakar or to the legendary Renault 5 Turbo Group B. In recent years we have seen in action the Clio and now it’s up to the third generation Twingo to show on dirt. The Lozenge brand has presented the Twingo R1, which will debut Friday at the 63rd Rallye Sanremo.
The dedicated trophy will wind along four choices races within the CIR, the Italian Rally Championship: it starts with the Targa Florio on May 8 and continue with the Rally del Friuli Venezia Giulia (August 28th), the City of Rome ( 25 September) and you end up with the Two Valleys (16 October). But the Twingo R1 can be used anywhere, even in so-called Zone Rally. Costs? The Twingo TCe base is € 9,711 plus VAT; R1 kit costs € 26 thousand plus VAT.
The Twingo R1 will be featured this year the Twingo R1 Trophy which will include four races of the Italian Rally Championship: Rally Targa Florio Rally del Friuli Venezia Giulia, Rome Capital Rally and Rally Due Valli. In addition, a ranking will be established ad hoc in 15 local rally with a prize for each race.
Renault’s proposal for rallies is consequently expanding a new trophy that is complementary to the existing ones, namely the Clio R3T Top in the Italian Rally Championship, the new Twingo R2 Trophy Land inserted in the Italian Championship Earth Challenge 2WD Clio R3T and Clio R3C in tricolor WRC, IRC R3C trophies Clio, Twingo R2 IRC and Run with Clio N3 the International Rally Cup. to these are also added trophies Zone Clio R3T / R3C and Twingo R2 and, finally, the “Lady Renault “, a special classification extrapolated from all rallies that rewards the pink crews.
