According to initial reports, the Velar will start its career with the 2.0 Diesel Ingenium, as well as the petrol and diesel V6 engines currently known within the Jaguar-Land Rover Group. These should however be replaced eventually by new 3.0 Ingenium 6-cylinder in-line, petrol and diesel engines. Engines derived from the 2.0 Ingenium with 4 cylinders, to which will thus be added two cylinders. A hybrid plug-in version should also be proposed. One can also expect a SVR sports variant with supercharged 5.0 V8 engine. We should know more in early March, at the opening of the doors of the Geneva show.
Range Rover will also enter the SUV-Coupé sporting market, with the Velar, which should be unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show.
This Range Velar (an appellation that was used on the prototypes of the first Range Rover in the late 60s) will point the Porsche Macan, BMW X6 and Mercedes GLE Coupé in its sight. It will be placed in the range between the Evoque and the Range Rover Sport. It will hold more of the latter, since it will have an aluminum platform, in this case that of its first cousin: the Jaguar F-Pace. A little longer than a Macan, this new Range will also be distinguished by a low roof line, evoking the coupe.
