The V6 engine, set to arrive in 2018, will be ‘revolutionary’, with the power of a V6 along with the economy of a diesel. It’s understood the first candidate for this new engine be the all-new QX50, with around 300kW and 400Nm.
If the claims of ‘diesel economy’ are true, then it will be comparable to Mercedes-Benz’s upcoming inline-six with an integrated electric motor in the crankcase.
British magazine Autocar has learned that the QX50 could inaugurate a “revolutionary” engine that offers a blend of V6 power and diesel-like fuel economy. While technical details are still few and far between, it sounds like Infiniti has designed the world’s first production-bound engine fitted with variable compression ratio technology.
While the Mercedes GLA has standard forward collision warning and automatic emergency braking, those important safety features are options on the Infiniti. They should be standard on a luxury car like this.
While pricing was not available at press time, company officials said that the starting price would be “below $30,000,” and a typically-equipped model should be around $40,000.
