As in most sports Mercedes roadster SLC 43 AMG offers an indoor environment as chic as sports and enjoys a fine finish. However, the multimedia package is not convincing. Without touch control, it must pass through the central control wheel with two buttons for accessing menus oddly arranged. As for Apple carplay system, which is already proving unconvincing on cars with a touch screen, it becomes a real calamity here.
If the highest performance SLC lost two cylinders, it has also seriously reduced its tariff. Charged € 66 000, the high-end 43 AMG claiming € 22,400 less than the previous model 55 AMG. A great drawback, especially as the level of standard equipment is enriched with adaptive LED headlights on, an interior lighting package, the automatic emergency braking, a set multimedia modernized and a rearview camera. The cost of the registration document also drop significantly thanks to a tax power from 31 to 25 hp while also malus down from € 6,500 to € 3,000.
At launch, the first SLK (type R170) has been criticized by fans of sports who accused him of harboring supercharged four-cylinder engines while BMW Z3 and Porsche Boxster proposed six cylinders. The roadster coupé cabriolet is offered a V6 3.2 (SLK 320) atmospheric 218 hp and a turbocharged version of (SLK 32 AMG) 354 hp. The second and third generation of 2004 (known as R171) and 2011 (R172) ended all criticism by hosting a big V8 in the version 55 AMG displaying up to 421 hp.
