Mercedes AMG GT R breaks the lap record

Mercedes AMG GT R breaks the lap record

This record breaking lap time was governed by the Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India (FMSCI). Mercedes’ AMG driver Christian Hohenadel managed to accomplish this feat with the GT R breaking the previous lap record held again by Mercedes. Earlier it was the SLS AMG which had managed a lap time of 2:14:521.

The signature green colour of Mercedes-AMG GT R is a tribute to Nurburgring race track in Germany, which is better known as the Green Hell. The sports car has been fine tuned at this track. It is powered by a 4.0-litre V8 engine with twin turbochargers and direct injection. The 3,982cc engine develops 577bhp of power at 6,250rpm and 700Nm of torque from 1,900 rpm. All the power is transmitted to the rear wheels via AMG Speedshift seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.

Numerous innovations and modifications bear witness that the road-going sports car has racing DNA in its blood. The foundations for such exceptional driving dynamics come courtesy of the front mid-engine layout with transaxle, a 430 kW(585 hp) V8 bi-turbo engine, extensively modified suspension, sophisticated aerodynamics, active rear-axle steering, bespoke tyres and intelligent lightweight design.

Mercedes is readying the launch of the AMG GT R in India on August 21, 2017. The new record set by the car at Buddh is enough to make prospective customers, and fans fall in love with the car all over again, and for Mercedes, selling record-setting cars in India will help sales.
