Tokuo Fukuichi, President of Lexus International, said: “We have set ambitious environmental goals for 2050, the popularity of the hybrid technology worldwide is extremely important for us to achieve those goals. I’m extremely happy that over 1 million customers worldwide have put their faith into our Lexus hybrid line-up.”
Hybrid isn’t solely about fuel-sipping, you know; the engine/battery/electric-motor mix can be tuned for high- performance too as, indeed, some recent models from the brand have shown.
Another key change is the improved handling and dynamics. While previous generations tended to feature rather non-communicative handling, you feel much more confident pushing this new one harder through the curves. This is especially true if you add the available F Sport package. The vehicle rides on MacPherson struts in front and a double-wishbone setup is used at the back.
In the first three months of 2016, the division’s hybrids accounted for about two-thirds of its total European sales, with the NX 300h crossover at the top of customers’ preferences list, followed by the compact CT 200h and by the RX 450h SUV. By the end of March, Lexus said it has sold around 1,000,600 hybrid models since 2005.
