As previously reported, this will be an interesting model for Kia as it is set to be its first proper, dedicated sports model. Power is likely to come from Hyundai’s 3.3-litre twin-turbo V6 churning out around 270kW. It is going to be rear-wheel drive, although all-wheel drive probably won’t be out of the question for some markets.
From recent spyshots of the model, we now know that it isn’t really a sedan per se, as it actually has a liftback tailgate, a la the Audi A7 Sportback. With a sporty rear-wheel drive platform, honed on the Nurburgring no less, the Kia GT looks set to take on the big boys in the sports sedan market.
The first teaser video for Kia’s elaborate reveal takes place at the Nurburgring. There’s not much to make out out aside from the car’s instruments and its exhaust note. Nonetheless, the car’s presence on the hallowed German circuit is a serious statement of intent from Kia.
For now the teaser video and the scant info posted to Kia’s dedicated website is all we know, but the firm promises new teasers throughout December, so we should learn plenty more soon.
