When released the California was Maranello’s first V8 front-engined, rear-drive, two-seater convertible, and now that its time is due Ferrari has revealed an all-new successor due for its first public outing at next month’s Frankfurt motor show.
Ferrari claims that all aspects of the twin-turbo V8’s efficiency have been honed with the adoption of new pistons and a new intake system design. A new one-piece-cast exhaust header has been deployed to reduce losses.
The Portofino will aim to build on that legacy, with all the mod-cons for indoor comfort, as well as speed and performance. The new model able to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.5 seconds, but a wind deflector reduces airflow into the car by 30 per cent when the top is down.
