This is the very end of last year that Porsche has put us on the track of the restyling of its Boxster and Cayman, in announcing the new name “718”. A name which, it must be remembered, refers to the 718 of 1957 and its engine boxer four-cylinder. And it will be the Geneva Motor Show in 2015 to have the heart net with the presentation of the 718 Boxster, which effectively abandons its 6 cylinders to move on all fours. Only remained the coupe version, the current generation goes back to 2012, to also opt for the “718-4 cylinders” package. This is now done!
Light exterior and interior restyling, strengthened chassis, more powerful brakes, precise steering (10%) and rear wheels substantially expanded also in the program of the new models, which will also be equipped with the Sport Chrono Package, Porsche Torque Vectoring (PTV) or the PASM system.
On the side of the chassis, the suspension is lowered 10mm but with Magnetic Ride adaptive damping system is optionally available. Braking is assured of his side by huge 370mm discs which may be carbon ceramic if you check.
Already quite efficient, the chassis was further refined for its part, while a few cosmetic changes are also in the game. The best news is however that Porsche Cayman shows that 718 718 less than the Boxster: available in September in France, it will start at € 53,960 instead of € 56,000 for his brother discoverable. A cut less than a roadster, this may seem logical … but that was not the case so far.
