However, the Bavarian manufacturer already offers cars of series 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7, not to mention the Z4. This is why BMW has just announced the likely launch of a brand new Series 8, a mythical car that disappeared from the market almost 20 years ago, in 1999 to be exact.
BMW now wants to capture the aura of its creation to come back this year with a reinterpretation. The manufacturer confirmed in a brief statement with a sketch that a design study of the new Series 8 would be unveiled at the end of the month in order to prepare the ground for a commercialization in 2018.
It should not, however, move away from this vision of the large statutory coupe, in the sphere of the Lexus LC or Mercedes S-Class Coupé. The CLAR platform of the BMW 5 Series and the BMW 7 Series would be taken over again, as would the engines: the range should be fitted with six cylinders and V8s, all fitted to the eight-speed transmission and optionally to the xDrive transmission. A high-end version with V12 engine of BMW M760Li is also to be envisaged.
For the time being the Munich constructor did not divulge any other element but we will know more this Friday when the prestigious Italian competition opened.
The Automobilist will be present at the Villa d’Este and in the coming days you will be able to enjoy beautiful photographic shots that will complement the official images of Serie 8 Concept.
