BMW M2 the legend is born

BMW’s latest M2 Coupe is equipped with a six-cylinder 3-litre engine that makes 370bhp and a peak torque figure of 465Nm at 1400-5560rpm. With the overboost function in full force, torque increases to 500Nm. Power to the wheels is routed through the M double clutch Drivelogic 7-speed box. BMW claims the M2 Coupe can do the 0-100 run in 4.3 seconds.

With the M3 and M4 you have near endless ways to personalise engine and suspension setup, but BMW just gives you its best effort with the M2. You get what you’re given, and really, they know best.

The M2 does score the M3/M4’s higher-spec engine components, mighty brakes and as good as matches its M cousins performance wise. Hitting 100kmh in 4.3 seconds is plenty enough.

The M2 features a lightweight aluminum subframe and suspension components under the widened bodywork as well as an Active M Rear Differential. BMW says the M2 has been further enhanced for One Lap duty with BMW M Performance Accessories, including carbon fiber front and rear spoilers, carbon fiber rear diffuser, M Performance coil-over suspension and sport exhaust system.

The 2016 One Lap of America competitors leave South Bend, Indiana today (Saturday, April 30) for the 7-day, 2,827 mile wild and wacky motorsports event. Can the new BMW M2 win their class? Stay tuned.
