The latest tidbit, sourced from AutoCar, cites anonymous inside sources, so take it with a grain of salt. But it claims the 2020 GTI will use an electric motor mounted at the front of the seven-speed dual-clutch transmission to improve acceleration. Interestingly, the exhaust-driven turbocharger will reportedly be replaced with an electric turbo that improves low-end power, AutoCar claims.
According to Autocar, these electrical bits are expected to make their way through the entire eighth-generation Golf lineup. The automaker is also tweaking the MQB platform to include more lightweight metals for the new model, VW insiders say. This update should reduce weight by about 110 pounds.
It is also said that these changes when incorporated will make this Golf, the most powerful model prepared by company up till now in the Gold category.
The new 2020 Volkswagen Golf GTI is almost three years away but the company has high hopes from the way all the developmental proceedings are going through., along with that it will have a power output like that of 261bhp and will most probably have a 2.0 liter VW turbocharged petrol engine.
