Under the hood, the 2017 Skoda Octavia will be powered by a 1.4 litre and 1.8 litre petrol engine with 147 hp of power and a 2.0 litre diesel unit with 140 hp of power that will be paired to a 6-speed manual and a 7-speed DSG automatic gearbox.
In terms of safety, it will get ABS (Anti-lock Braking System), EBD (Electronic Brakeforce Distribution) and dual airbags as standard fitment. However, it is expected that the higher variants might get the six to eight airbags.
The changes are not just limited to the exterior but present in the interiors as well. The new Octavia comes with an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system and ambient lighting with a multicolour option. There’s also new glossy black finish around the gear lever and climate control knobs, and new inserts in the door panel. You also get hands-free parking where you have to just brake and accelerate while the car steers itself.
These touches have made the cabin seem more premium than before. As far as engines are concerned, the Octavia continues with the same 150PS/250Nm 1.4-litre turbopetrol, 180PS/250Nm 1.8-litre turbopetrol and a 143PS/320Nm 2.0-litre diesel. While the bigger petrol and diesel can be optioned with an automatic or manual transmission, the 1.4-litre can only be ordered with a 6-speed manual. Skoda India claims to have reduced the emissions of all three engines by around one gram per kilometre.
