In its place comes the 81kW/205Nm turbocharged 1.2 litre three-cylinder petrol engine to all variants.
The change also means that ever vehicle in the Peugeot 2008 range now comes as standard with an auto transmission – a six-speed sequential unit.
Under the bonnet across the range is a 1.2-litre turbocharged three-cylinder petrol engine, developing 81kW of power and 205Nm of torque. The new mill, already found in the Peugeot 308 among others, replaces an 88kW/160Nm naturally aspirated 1.6-litre engine.
The change also means there is now no diesel option in the 2008 line-up, which previously offered 68kW and 230Nm in the top-spec Outdoor model.
All variants now get a reversing camera and Apple Carplay and MirrorLink connectivity via the standard seven-inch touchscreen. Higher grades will feature Satellite Navigation, Active City Brake (autonomous braking technology) and Grip Control (a technology that provides for greater grip in low traction situations) as standard.
