Anyone expecting the combination of CVT and turbo to be a one-two punch to the gut of fun would be wrong, but Honda’s winningest combination comes when you opt for a six-speed manual transmission available in the Civic hatchback Sport, in which the 180-hp turbo 1.5-liter is standard equipment.
With around 200 unofficial expressions of interest already logged with dealers around the country, Honda Australia has decided to bring forward the official order process, harvest some deposits and sort out customer preferences such as colour choice.
For comparison, the Honda beats out its all-wheel drive competition from Ford and Subaru. The Focus RS returns 19 mpg city, 25 highway and 22 combined while the Subaru WRX STI is rated at just 17 in the city, 23 on the highway and 19 mpg combined.
Still, this would be one of the easiest cars to turn into a pickup truck, as all the 320 horsepower from the 2.0L VTEC Turbo engine goes to the front wheels. And ironically, the older model Civics are often converted into pickups… because people are weird that way. Maybe this rendering can serve as inspiration for the next Mighty Car Mods build.
