BMW’s local arm is yet to confirm the M240i Performance Edition for our market yet, though with the locally-created M140i Performance Edition having just arrived, a special limited-run version of the 2 Series coupe would be a good fit as part of the updated range coming later this year.
Adam Davis, product communications manager for BMW Australia, said: “We are currently evaluating how it would sit within the local range come LCI time (‘lifecycle impulse, BMW’s term for a mid-life refresh, which this model is a part of). From there, we will assess customer/dealer desire, availability and allocation”.
“We have had a good run with limited-edition M and M Performance vehicles of late, and Aussies love performance cars.”
Inside, the Performance Edition gets Alcantara highlights on the steering wheel – including a red 12 o’clock marker on the rim – though the company is yet to divulge whether these new trims extend to the seats and wider cabin elements.
Under the bonnet is the familiar 3.0-litre turbocharged straight-six petrol engine, developing a meaty 250kW of power and 500Nm of torque, mated to either a six-speed manual or eight-speed automatic transmission.
Drive is sent as standard to the rear wheels, though the company’s xDrive all-wheel drive system is available as an option in overseas markets, matched exclusively with the eight-speed auto.
